This trip is my first time being out of the country! My goal is to capture as much as I can while also taking in the moment. I have been keeping a daily detailed travel journal filled with all of my Polish notes, lecture notes, tour guide and museum notes, as well as observations I have made. On top of these journal entries, I have been taking several pictures of my experiences here in Poland, and I have selected eight of my favorite photos thus far. My end goal is to create a scrapbook of my journey that I can look back to and reflect on.
Picture One: June 3, at Jagiellonian University Museum. This is one of the windows that is located in the old lecture hall. This was one of the first things we did and all I could think of was how dope it would be to have a Wittenberg class in this room with these windows.
Picture Two: June 3, streets of Krakow. This is the first ever picture I took of the streets of Krakow, and I was completely awestruck. This is when it really sunk in that I was in Poland and experiencing being out of the country. I loved how close together the buildings were, and how walkable the city was (and I am going to miss this the most).
Picture Three: June 5, Wawel Cathedral. This is the view from the top of the bell tower. At first, I was not enjoying the walk up to the bell tower as the stairs were very narrow and steep. However, all of my stress went away when I saw the view of Krakow. I was genuinely blown away by the beauty of it, and I don’t think that I will ever be able to forget how I felt when I first set my eyes upon Krakow from there.
Picture Four: June 5, Wawel Cathedral. This is a porcelain sculpture of Jesus’s crucifixion. The sheer detail and craftsmanship that went into this piece was inspiring, from Jesus himself, the clothes, hair, positioning, and emotions portrayed on the others in the piece. I love observing art, and this definitely made the experience at Wawel Cathedral worthwhile.
Picture Five: June 7, the Rynek in Krakow. This is the view from the top of a building looking down on the main square. I loved seeing the activity below and experiencing the business of the city from above it. This was definitely one of the best places to people watch.
Picture Six: June 8, the Rynek in Krakow. This is the sunset that I saw on the very last night in Krakow. It was absolutely stunning. Sitting in the restaurant area and people watching also gave me a strong insight into how people live their lives. My favorite moment of that night was seeing a man in an all gold tracksuit wearing white gogo boots. Truly the European experience.
Picture Seven: June 9, the Tatra Mountains. As someone who loves nature, Zakopane was definitely a place I wish we stayed longer. I loved taking the cable car and watching the trees and landscape go by, it was genuinely relaxing and peaceful, despite how crowded the cable car was.
Picture Eight: June 11, Jasna Gora Monastery. In short, this picture is one of my favorites simply because of the complexity of art, sculpture, and messaging that is portrayed in this specific area. It blows my mind how much work and attention to detail went into creating this area of worship.
